If you’ve applied to a payment gateway lately, you’ve probably been asked for a current account. Many sellers assume this is a legal requirement for doing business online in India. It isn’t.
Where the requirement actually comes from
Gateways and aggregators settle money into your account in batches, and their banking partners prefer business accounts for that. It’s an operational policy of the settlement model — not a rule about who is allowed to sell.
UPI works differently. A UPI payment moves directly from your customer’s bank account to yours, whichever kind of account that is. There is no settlement step, so there is nothing that requires a current account.
What you actually need
A UPI ID that receives payments, a way to show each customer the right amount, and a way to know a specific payment arrived for a specific order. The first one you already have. The other two are what PaidBeep does.
Your phone already announces every payment you receive. PaidBeep’s app reads that confirmation — just the amount and reference number — and matches it to the waiting order in your store. The money itself never goes anywhere new.
The short version
You don’t need a current account to sell online. You need to receive UPI payments and verify them reliably. If a gateway told you otherwise, they were describing their process, not your options.
